October, 2014.

It has been proposed by the committee, that when a competition is cancelled due to lack of members participating, members will then be given a credit note to be used in another competition. These will be placed in a named envelope on the ladies noticeboard.

Recently a number of questions and requests have been brought to the attention of the ladies committee. In future could members give a written request to the Ladies Committee secretary so that reference can be made to this at the committee meeting and also a response can then be given to the appropriate member.

****Please note the information on the competition pages of the web site regarding keeping your handicap current, filling in your competition scorecard correctly and entry requirements for the Trophy competitions. Any questions regarding this please submit a written request to the ladies committee via the secretary. *****

Yve Howard seems to have had a great start to October. She won the monthly medal and then a week later won the Over 50s competition. All of this has resulted in Yve having her handicap cut by 4 shots. Well done Yve and well deserved.

September, 2014

Well done to all of the ladies who took part in the summer knock out competitions. All of the finals have now taken place with some great close matches.

Ladies Doubles match between Lorraine Fox and Paula Batchelor against Nicki Turbayne and Denise Turvey with Denise and Nicki winning the match.

A great achievement and well deserved.

Lady Captains Friday afternoon 9 hole and tea time.

July, 2014.

The Ladies Open went very well on the 29th, with 13 teams taking part this year. The winning team was from Silverstone, Nicki Turbayne, Denise Turvey and Gill Pedder. Please make a note of the date for next year Tuesday 28th July, when we hope that the numbers will continue to increase.

It was definitely Nicki's day, not only in the winning team but getting the nearest the pin on 2 of the 4 holes, well one was actually caused by a hole in one on the 16th hole. A fantastic achievement witnessed by lots of players and heard by many more!! Thank you Nicki for the bottle of Baileys which many of the lady members enjoyed.

Please note that the weekend of the Club Championships 12th/13th July is also the Silverstone Classics weekend, the roads will be very busy around the course.

Northants Vets County competitions have been arranged for next year. All three teams will now have three matches. Spring - Elton Firs GC 11th May, Am/Am 4 Ball team event at Wellingborough GC. 23rd July and the Autumn foursomes at Kingthorpe GC. Please see Tracy if you would like more information regarding the County Vets.

Cecil Leitch Matches 2015.

We hope that this continues next year when we hope to win more games. The teams that we will be playing next year are :- Rushden, Daventry, Brampton Heath and Whittlebury.

June, 2014.

Captains Trophy will take place on Saturday 12th July. In the evening there will be a function with a live band. It would be good to see many of our regular members joining in with the evening function to make sure that this is a sucess

**** Alison Berry has done a fantastic job organising flowers in the changing room over the last year but would like more help in providing the flowers to make our changing space look bright.

Please sign up on the board or bring in your flowers from your gardens during the summer months to help cheer up our changing room.****

Silverstone Ladies Open Competition will take place on Tuesday 29th July. At present there are not many teams from Silverstone GC. If you are thinking about entering a team, would you please let Julie know before the end of the month. We already have over 10 teams from other clubs around the county.

I am pleased to tell the lady members that one of our members Nicki Turbayne was seleceted to play in a county match for Northamptonshire 2nd team against Warwickshire and Hereford & Worcester at Wellingborough Golf Club on Wednesday 28th May. This year they tried a new format where all three counties played on the same day against each other rather than individual matches against each county.  The way the new format worked is as follows:

Morning Round - Singles: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 1, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 2, Warwickshire 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1.

Foursomes: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 1, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 2, Warwickshire 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1.

Afternoon -  Singles:Northants 1 v Warwickshire 2, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1, Warwickshire 1 v Hereford & Worcester 2.

Foursomes: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 2, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1, Warwickshire 1 v Hereford & Worcester 2.

It was a very wet day, Nicki played in a singles match in the morning which was halved against an opponent from Hereford & Worcester and in the afternoon she played foursomes against two players from Warwickshire which unfortunately she lost. The final result for the day was Warwickshire won with 4.5 points, Hereford & Worcester had 4 points and Northants had 3.5 points. Well done Nicki, it is great to see members representing the county.

June 26th is the Ladies Charity Pairs competition. Entry fee is £5 for the pair. This is a betterball Stableford competition and should be good fun. Please help support this competition and sign up on the noticeboard for entrance.

On Saturday 31st May we had our Cecil Leitch game against Wellingborough GC at home. Unfortunately despite the dry weather and home advantage after some close games we lost the match 4-3. Well done to Susan, Sheila and Denise who won their games.

This year the Bader Cup has now been taken off the national calendar of golf competitions. The date's that were originally put in the calendar for the Bader Cup club qualifier, is now going to be a mixed club competition with a similar format to the Bader Cup. A Mixed Greensomes competition will now take place over two dates Friday 6th June or Sunday 8th June. More details are on the noticeboard and we hope to get many members playing in this new competition.

Well done to Natalie Toms and Gill Pedder who won the Coronation Foursomes Qualifying round at Silverstone with 33 points. They will now be put forward and we wait to see whether they will be successful in gaining a place in one of the Area Finals later this year.
Daily Mail Foursomes - Unfortunately Gill and Natalie lost in the third round of this competition to Woburn  at Woburn GC. They did however enjoy playing at Woburn in this competition.

*A request from Rodney to all members,*

Throughout the winter we did our utmost to keep the driving range open. Unfortunately as a result of this we now have many balls plugged in the ground. Next Wednesday (21st May) we will be asking members to come up and help us get as many balls out of the ground/hedges as possible. If you are able to help please let the Proshop know.

Thank you in advance.

Good luck to Gill Pedder and Natalie Toms in the next round of the Daily Mail competition. They have got a home match against Woburn GC.

Thank you to Julie Edwards for organising the competition, sorting out the prizes and collating the results at the end. A fun mixed competition that had members from all sections taking part which was great to see.

April, 2014.

Wednesday 30th May - 9 hole roll up - This week the roll up was on the back 9 which many were looking forward to the change. In the past few weeks the roll up has been dominated by the men but not this week; the ladies got their revenge. There was also a few incidents that need to be noted. Will not wanting Dave to win 2 weeks on the trot, tried to take Dave's clubs out using the buggy. As Dave said "Its a bit difficult to produce the high standard if your clubs are bent!" A little bit of an exageration but did give the group something to laugh about! Anyone who would like to be in the top 3, go out with Natalie who seems to be the lucky charm being in the winning team for the last couple of weeks.
Winner - Natalie Toms 26pts, 2nd - Paula Batchelor 20 pts, 3rd - Charmaine Locke 18pts (on count back), 4th Nige(ella) James 18pts. Thank you all members for turning up to the roll up and making these evening's great fun and successful and a big thanks to Rodney for organising these evenings. 28 members this week. Hopefully the numbers will continue to increase as we get closer to the summer.
Friday 25th April - The second Cecil Leitch game was against Wellingborough away. Unfortunately the ladies lost 6 -1 but the SGC ladies played with enthusiasm. We may not have the result we would have liked but it was a very enjoyable day. We were lucky with the weather, the ladies were a friendly bunch and as always we show such sportsmanship.
Special congratulations to Harriet Dellar, a great win on her first appearance for the Cecil Leitch team.
Team - Captain - Charmaine Locke, Helen Marshall, Pat Ward, Alison Berry, Harriet Dellar, Yvonne Husband and Denise Green.

Despite the wet weather there were still 20 members at the St Georges Day Wednesday 9 hole roll up. Thank you to all the members who joined in the competition; it is great to see members supporting this event and hopefully the weather will improve as we get closer to summer. The Dragon hole was the 8th hole.

Wednesday night roll up on 23rd April is the St George's Day 9 Hole competition. Can you "Slay the dragon" ~Stableford. Double points on the Dragon hole. This will be drawn on the night. £3.00 to enter. Please remember to order food prior to going out.

Ladies Rules Afternoon on Thursday 22nd April. Open to all lady members who would like a refresher of the rules of golf. This will be taken by Rodney after the Ladies come in from playing golf. He has been asked to explain Water Hazards and Lateral Water  Hazards, GUR and how to take relief from all these. He will also go through how to fill out the score cards correctly and inform players regarding checking competitions and handicaps on line using the website.

Well done to the Ladies Team for the first Cecil Leitch game. The ladies who won the match against Priors Hall GC 6 - 1. A good testament that Rodney's training sessions have been put to good use. Lets hope the other fixtures through to July go as well and are as enjoyable. Thank you to the catering staff for the sandwiches and chips prior to each of the games. Team = Captain Charmaine Locke, Natalie Toms, Gill Pedder, Alison Berry, Pat Ward, Birg Wilson, Denise Green.

It was great to see the Wednesday Evening roll up start. There were 14 members this week which is a good start and we hope to have more members in the coming weeks as the weather hopefully improves. There will be food available next week for those coming from work. Well done to Denise Green  who came third with 18 points.

Daily Mail FoursomesGill Pedder and Natalie Toms had a walk over against Whittlebury Park in Round 1

Although we have had several weeks where the conditions were very difficult to play golf at Silverstone, the winter competitions have been completed well ahead of the deadlines, showing that by sticking to the timings for each round, where we could, we can complete these winter competitions. This has continued to show the improvement seen in the summer competitions.

New sheets are on the board to sign up for the Summer knockouts. Please note that those members who sign up are expected to have paid by the deadline of the 3rd May if they want to be included in the draw.

Congratulations to Gill and Steve Pedder who won the Winter Doubles Knockout competition with Denise and Chris Turvey worthy runner up.

A big thank you to Charmaine for coordinating the elves, mince pies and mulled wine and Barbara for organising the presents. A lovely way to celebrate Christmas at Silverstone GC.

November, 2013.

July 2013

Silverstone Ladies Open Tuesday 23rd July.

The first Ladies Open to be run at Silverstone Golf Club for a number of years got off to rather a "wobbly" start when the first group arrived at the first green to a big flash of lightening and loud raw of thunder which caused a hasty retreat to the club house for nearly one hour!! It seemed to be rather touch and go whether the competition would actually continue over 18 holes but finally, Rodney gave the go ahead and the first group set off again. The day got hotter and hotter, and all of the teams managed to complete their 18 holes with out further rain or thunder showers.

All of the lady competitors received a "welcome goody bag" with coffee and danish to start. The bottle of water half way round was very welcome as the temperature began to rise for the back nine.

Thank you to all of the ladies who entered both from Silverstone GC and other clubs in the area. We do hope that we can build on this for the future and increase the numbers who take part next year. A big thank you must go to the Ladies captain and her organising committee. "Flipping Friday" 6th June - What a great evening was provided by the Bar and Catering staff at the club. The food was excellent and in a great relaxed surrounding with the added twist of whether you would have to pay for what you had just eaten or would you actually call the right head or tails when Jolt Flipped his coin? Many of the diners stated that they would be happy to just pay for their meal, and I dont think that this was just bravado at the prospect of them not winning the call! Roll on the next one and hope to see many more golfers join in what was a great evening at Silverstone.
Thursday 20th June, 9am. Charmaine and Barbara will be organising a Texas scramble with a small entry fee of £1. It is important that we know numbers for that morning so please add your name to the list in the changing room or e mail Charmaine to let her know that you would like to be involved.
