It has been proposed by the committee, that when a competition is cancelled due to lack of members participating, members will then be given a credit note to be used in another competition. These will be placed in a named envelope on the ladies noticeboard.
Recently a number of questions and requests have been brought to the attention of the ladies committee. In future could members give a written request to the Ladies Committee secretary so that reference can be made to this at the committee meeting and also a response can then be given to the appropriate member.
****Please note the information on the competition pages of the web site regarding keeping your handicap current, filling in your competition scorecard correctly and entry requirements for the Trophy competitions. Any questions regarding this please submit a written request to the ladies committee via the secretary. *****
Yve Howard seems to have had a great start to October. She won the monthly medal and then a week later won the Over 50s competition. All of this has resulted in Yve having her handicap cut by 4 shots. Well done Yve and well deserved.

The Ladies Open went very well on the 29th, with 13 teams taking part this year. The winning team was from Silverstone, Nicki Turbayne, Denise Turvey and Gill Pedder. Please make a note of the date for next year Tuesday 28th July, when we hope that the numbers will continue to increase.
It was definitely Nicki's day, not only in the winning team but getting the nearest the pin on 2 of the 4 holes, well one was actually caused by a hole in one on the 16th hole. A fantastic achievement witnessed by lots of players and heard by many more!! Thank you Nicki for the bottle of Baileys which many of the lady members enjoyed.

I am pleased to tell the lady members that one of our members Nicki Turbayne was seleceted to play in a county match for Northamptonshire 2nd team against Warwickshire and Hereford & Worcester at Wellingborough Golf Club on Wednesday 28th May. This year they tried a new format where all three counties played on the same day against each other rather than individual matches against each county. The way the new format worked is as follows:
Morning Round - Singles: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 1, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 2, Warwickshire 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1.
Foursomes: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 1, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 2, Warwickshire 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1.
Afternoon - Singles:Northants 1 v Warwickshire 2, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1, Warwickshire 1 v Hereford & Worcester 2.
Foursomes: Northants 1 v Warwickshire 2, Northants 2 v Hereford & Worcester 1, Warwickshire 1 v Hereford & Worcester 2.
It was a very wet day, Nicki played in a singles match in the morning which was halved against an opponent from Hereford & Worcester and in the afternoon she played foursomes against two players from Warwickshire which unfortunately she lost. The final result for the day was Warwickshire won with 4.5 points, Hereford & Worcester had 4 points and Northants had 3.5 points. Well done Nicki, it is great to see members representing the county.

Next Wednesday (21st May) we will be asking members to come up and help us get as many balls out of the ground/hedges as possible. If you are able to help please let the Proshop know.

Although we have had several weeks where the conditions were very difficult to play golf at Silverstone, the winter competitions have been completed well ahead of the deadlines, showing that by sticking to the timings for each round, where we could, we can complete these winter competitions. This has continued to show the improvement seen in the summer competitions.
New sheets are on the board to sign up for the Summer knockouts. Please note that those members who sign up are expected to have paid by the deadline of the 3rd May if they want to be included in the draw.

Silverstone Ladies Open Tuesday 23rd July.
The first Ladies Open to be run at Silverstone Golf Club for a number of years got off to rather a "wobbly" start when the first group arrived at the first green to a big flash of lightening and loud raw of thunder which caused a hasty retreat to the club house for nearly one hour!! It seemed to be rather touch and go whether the competition would actually continue over 18 holes but finally, Rodney gave the go ahead and the first group set off again. The day got hotter and hotter, and all of the teams managed to complete their 18 holes with out further rain or thunder showers.
All of the lady competitors received a "welcome goody bag" with coffee and danish to start. The bottle of water half way round was very welcome as the temperature began to rise for the back nine.
Thank you to all of the ladies who entered both from Silverstone GC and other clubs in the area. We do hope that we can build on this for the future and increase the numbers who take part next year. A big thank you must go to the Ladies captain and her organising committee.
